Bananas in Pyjamas Party Ideas

It’s Bananas! In Pyjamas! They’re coming down the stairs!  Kids love the light hearted (mis)adventures of B1 and B2 and there is no better way to put a smile on their face than giving them their very own Bananas In Pyjamas birthday party. The Bananas love birthday parties and here are some simple ways you can make it so ‘banafantistic’ that B1 and B2 may even stop by.

Get the party started

So first you have to get the word on the street that there is going to be a party, the only way to do this is with these colourful Banana In Pyjamas party invitations. In the invitations make it known that the dress code for the party is 'pyjamarific' and every guest has to come along to the party wearing their favourite pjs.

Have B1 and B2 greet the kids at the door, giving each kid a party hat to get them excited. Get the adults of the party to dress up in a banana costume, like this one; it is a guaranteed way to get a lot of belly laughs from the kids.

A great way to kick start the party is with a face painting session. While the children are waiting to get their face painted you could hire a clown who entertains the little guests by making fun and quirky balloon animals.

Dress the banana

Encourage kids to tap into their creative side by setting up a craft table where kids get their very own banana to dress. This is a similar idea to Mr Potato Head except you are using a banana. Give each kid their own banana and put on the table plenty of craft supplies for them to use -things like googly eyes, felt and yarn, or even old doll clothes are great options.

Once the bananas are dressed it is time for them to come out and play. Incorporate them into your party games. For example, you can have relay races where the players must carry a banana under their chins or on a wooden spoon.

Sweeten up the party

Create a dessert table that will widen the eyes of your little guests. Make sure you stay true to the theme by having an abundance of blue, white and yellow coloured candy. Other parcels of sweets to include are macaroons, pots of jelly, cupcakes and frozen banana’s that have been dipped in chocolate and then rolled in kid favourite coatings.  Want to create a ‘wow factor’ then setting up an ice-cream 'banana-tastic' sundae bar where kids choose their own toppings is a magical treat that will feed and satisfy their little bellies.

Frozen Banana’s

You can make these up ahead of time or alternatively if you are a patient hostess you may even consider making these with the kids at the party.

You will need:

A bunch of firm bananas, peeled and cut in half

popsicle sticks

2 x 400g block dark cooking chocolate

crushed nuts

colourful sprinkles, smarties and various other lollies

desiccated coconut

Get Creating:

Push a popsicle stick into the thick part of each banana, line a tray with some baking paper and then set the bananas on the tray and freeze for about two hours.

Melt the chocolate in a glass bowl by sitting it in a pan of boiling water, stir until all is melted.

Set out coatings on separate plates, such as the sprinkles, nuts and coconut.

Remove bananas from the freezer and dip in chocolate mixture. Roll in coating and place back on the tray to store in the freezer until required.
